I applaud the President for wanting to do something to stem the tide, but you cannot legally stop someone who can legally own a weapon from buying it. I think he's seizing on the fact that the last few instances were done with legally bought weapons. I could see him using an EO to end the going to the gun shows and walking out with 50 new weapons (exaggeration folks) and no background checks.
https://www.rt.com/usa/324798-gun-haul-south-carolina/ THIS is what we need to be looking out for. There are collectors and then there are "collectors" and the second group aren't watched, looked into, or even given the side eye being they are "Murican". These weapons would wind up on your street, your block and be used to do harm, and the person who will get the blame would be the shooter......but they missed the most important fact of it....the person who sold it to them. Back in the 80-90's in DC you could buy a weapon that had "bodies" on it for $100 or less depending on the weapon and how many bodies were on it (you can STILL do it today if you know where to go). We need to enforce the laws we have. They're vague and need a drastic update. We also need to get over the "Obama's taking your guns away" crap the NRA and others push out. He hasn't made one move to take a legally owned weapon from anyone. But he is making it harder for those of us who like shooting and owning weapons. Congress is also at fault. They see a wrong, but due to lobbying and back door money, they would say anything the weapon industry wants them to. As hurting for cash the military is, you'd think congress would find a way to stop the F-35.......can't do that, but we can "pink slip" troops who are deployed. Makes sense to me (STRONG SARCASM)

'An a**-load of guns': Cops still counting weapons seized in S. Carolina home
How much time does it take to count over 5,000 guns? Apparently, 6 weeks is not enough, as a South Carolina police department discovered facing an "ass-load of guns" captured in one house in October. The other question is, how they were collected?

SSG Warren Swan,
If you know how many guns you have, you don't have enough.
This fellow was coming up on enough, it would appear.
It is not clear to me why they took them away from him. He was a third generation collector; you can collect quite a few guns in three generations.

Capt Seid Waddell - the original article was posted on the old RP and the police said that over half of the weapons found had no serial numbers on them. That in itself is bad enough for the average person to do some time over. The original article was better to me. I wish I had it. The cops were finding them in places no one would ever think of. Personally I would like to own a few more weapons, but I have no desire to illegally "collect" them. It was also mentioned that SC is a known starting point for illegal weapons heading north. If we're only paying attention to the terrorist who is in front of us with the description that mass media gives us, we could be/are missing the main terrorist who's behind us, because he might "look" like us.

From what I read, they may try to broaden the definition of doing business with firearms, to further limit who can sell a firearm as a non-dealer.

Capt Seid Waddell - i could not agree with you more. and i believe i said that the only thing it will do is leave law abiding citizens the only ones who will obey the law. because criminals do not abide by the laws and will find a way to get a gun. the point is if you outlaw guns then only law enforcement and crooks will have them.

Capt Seid Waddell - one thing you can be sure of if they outlaw guns i'm going to become an outlaw because i refuse to be left defenseless.

PO2 Jeffery Marcussen Sr, exactly. It is better to be judged by twelve than carried by six.
