You can blame the Democrats and William Randolph Hearst for making Marijuana illegal. He was so scared that HEMP was going to upset his monopoly, his 26 newspapers, the forests, saw mills, paper mills that kept him as one of America's biggest millionaires and richest Democrat lawmakers. HEMP aside from its fibers making a dynamite rope, it also make a better paper than wood does. Its tougher, accepts ink better and makes better newsprint. and you do not need massive sawmills. PLUS you can get 3x as much newsprint from the same acreage of hemp than you can of prime timber. So that would cut into Hearst's monopoly of Forests, sawmills and paper factory's. He used his political connections to move to get a herb, Cannabis that has been around got centuries, made illegal.
The oldest written record of cannabis usage is the Greek historian Herodotus's reference to the central Eurasian Scythians taking cannabis steam baths. His (c. 440 BCE) Histories records, "The Scythians, take some of this hemp-seed [presumably, flowers], and, throw it upon the red-hot stones; immediately it smokes, and gives out such a vapour as no Grecian vapour-bath can exceed; the Scyths, delighted, shout for joy." Classical Greeks and Romans were using cannabis, while in the Middle East, use spread throughout the Islamic empire to North Africa. In 1545, cannabis spread to the western hemisphere where Spaniards imported it to Chile for its use as fiber. In North America, cannabis, in the form of hemp, was grown for use in rope, clothing and paper. Because of its wide usage they had to find a reason it was dangerous, and they did. The active ingredient in Cannibis, THC, it's full name is Delta 9 TetraHydroCannabinol.
The psychoactive effects of cannabis are known to have a triphasic nature. Primary psychoactive effects include a state of relaxation, and to a lesser degree, euphoria from its main psychoactive compound, tetrahydrocannabinol. Secondary psychoactive effects, such as a facility for philosophical thinking, introspection and metacognition have been reported among cases of anxiety and paranoia. Finally, the tertiary psychoactive effects of the drug cannabis, can include an increase in heart rate and hunger, believed to be caused by 11-OH-THC, a psychoactive metabolite of THC produced in the liver.
In other words it will do the same thing that drinking down a bottle of Jack Daniels in short order will do to someone. BUT Drinking Jack Daniels will not Mellow you out, give you a sense of euphoria, and Jack Daniels will not give you a case of the Munchies! AND with Cannabis, there is little chance of you puking on your shoes, and NO CHANCE of dying from Alcohol poisoning. Jack Daniels is legal...
Cannabis oils and extracts have been known to be used as medicinal agents for well over 2000 years on every continent on earth. Recently the research has expanded. Medical cannabis (or medical marijuana) refers to the use of cannabis and its constituent cannabinoids, to treat disease or improve symptoms. Cannabis is used to reduce nausea and vomiting during chemotherapy, to improve appetite in people with HIV/AIDS, and to treat chronic pain and muscle spasms.
Short-term use increases both minor and major adverse effects. Common side effects include dizziness, feeling tired, vomiting, and hallucinations. Long-term effects of cannabis are not clear., none are documented. Concerns including memory and cognition problems, risk of addiction, schizophrenia in young people, and the risk of children taking it by accident, (but that is no different from any other prescription you may have in your home.)
Cannabinoids are under preliminary research for their potential to affect stroke or children's epilepsy. Initial studies are looking extremely positive according to Johns Hopkins.
BUT lets go back to Hearst in his efforts. He succeeded. and you can go see how he did it. It was by the help of a Movie called "REEFER MADNESS" if you have not seen it, you need to. Go yo Youtube and watch it. It is hilarious. Hearst paid for this movie to be made in 1936 through a church group to keep his name clear of it, and distributed all over the country, to churches and community centers anywhere he could push his lies and the Democrats could get votes. Even after the law to make it illegal was passed making Marijuana a dangerous drug. an additional nail was driven into the Coffin. the TV Show DRAGNET did an entire show, as well as ADAM 12 on Marijuana and how "bad" it was.
On the positive side of this movie, as part of a fundraising campaign, NORML showed Reefer Madness on college campuses up and down California, asking a $1 donation for admission and raising $16,000 toward support for the California Marijuana Initiative, a political group that sought to legalize marijuana in the 1972 fall elections. Leonard Maltin has called it "the granddaddy of all 'Worst' movies." Las Vegas CityLife named it the "worst ever" runner-up to Plan 9 from Outer Space, and AMC described it as "one of the worst movies ever made." The film received mixed reviews from critics and holds a 46% rotten rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
Now that the History lesson is over, Isn't it about time we legalize this stuff for Adults and allow Doctors to prescribe the oils and extracts to help our Veterans and Cancer patients and anyone else who can be helped by it? It's the 21st Century for crying out loud, isn't it time we start acting like Adults and making decisions for ourselves and tell WASHINGTON to STFU!
If I may use a few of President Lincoln's word's... this nation, under God, needs a new birth of freedom -- and that government of the people, by the people, for the people, needs to realize that WE THE PEOPLE are PISSED! We put a Business Man in as President because we were sick and tired of the lies and B.S. we constantly got from politicians. Everyone knows where the word Politics comes from, the basic Latin: "Poly" meaning many and "Ticks" meaning blood sucking pests.
