This won't sound popular at first, but, I believe racism is a term invented by a victim. People are taught to be prejudice or have judgements based off their life experiences. The entire time I was enlisted I saw absolutely zero racial prejudice minus a few friendly race jokes each way.

We're the human race, and skin color doesn't define you as a person. How you act and present yourself subjects you to judgment. I won't deny that there are "racist" people out there that are ignorant, and while its sad, its plague that's defeated by indifference. Skin color differences will slowly resolve themselves as the people who preach stereotypes, hate, and empowerment are deemed unpopular.

Racism exists because people are people and are inherently flawed. The Nazi's existed in Germany. The Iron Guard existed in Romania. The Ustaše existed in Croatia. The Hutu majority in Rwanda massacre thousands of Tutsi. The KKK and the Black Panthers exist today in the United States. These organizations attract those people who feel that they must blame someone else for their lot in life, while encouraging racism towards anthers skin color or religion. One would have thought that after WW2 and after the sacrifices of Martin Luther King that Racism would have been relegated to the ash heap of history. Unfortunately, that is not the case and its continued presence is a indictment on Humanity as a whole.

I believe that racism exists, but I blame it all because of ignorance. We all are similar in many ways. It is when we try to see the differences in each other that separates us. I am white; just because I am white doesn't mean I have more of an allegiance or identify more with white people. White people come from all different backgrounds (as everyone else). Skin color might be the only thing I have in common with another white person. I enjoy like minded people. We all have biases, though. I lean ever so slightly more toward Army folks, but I still give people of all branches a chance lol. Army culture vs other US military culture are different, but all have different pro's and con's. We are all individuals with an individual mind. To judge by skin color and not the mind shows complete ignorance and intelligence in my eyes. I don't think I could get along with someone with such a simple mind/ world view.

Totally agree with you SGT Mark McReynolds, for myself, I have never cared what your color was, you were either a good person, or a bad person, if you are a good person in both word and deed, I would do my best to help you along your journey, if not, I will give you the best advice I can and then leave you to it. One thing that my time growing up in and then serving in the Military was there are STUDs from every race, gender, religion and orientation. just as there are zero's from those same groups. Hang out with the studs so that I can become better myself, (and help those along behind me for whatever reason) and avoid the zeros to the best of my ability.
Now, I will disagree with the Rev. comment that racisim has never existed, clearly it has, but things are undeniable worse now between the races than they were 8 or 10 years ago. but I have also seen Morgan Freeman's interviews (at least 2 I have found) where his answer is quite simply, to stop talking about it. If you are an American, just call yourself an American, because here it is SUPPOSED to be rise on your merit, not who you know, or are related too. Looking at a person you can usually tell were their family is from generally (Europe, Africa, Asia, etc) but that should have no bearing on jobs or pay what so ever.
