Unfortunately, this account of "The story behind our National Anthem." is virtually all false. Francis Scott Key wrote the words to our National Anthem. He was inspired to write them following the siege of Fort McHenry. Other than that, it is pure fiction. The extent to which the narrator goes to give this account the appearance of authenticity is so detailed that I can only conclude that he knew the truth but chose to ignore it and replace it with this false version.

I'm including a link to a transcript of "Official Account of the Bombardment of Fort McHenry.
Copy of a letter from Lieut. Colonel Armistead, to the Secretary of War, dated
Fort McHenry, Sept. 24th, 1814" This should give you at least some idea of just how wrong this version is.

The stories of the men and women who founded this Nation and defended it against attacks from our enemies, in this case, the British in the War of 1812 (36 years after we ceased to be "colonies" and became a Sovereign Nation in our own right) are inspirational on their own. This false tale does them a severe disservice to them and their sacrifices.

PFC Roger Goff - been that kind of week leading into this morning where you think about hanging them up. Sometimes you just need a kick in the ass. This was it for me today.
