I'd be surprised. We had higher tensions than this in the cold war. Quite frankly Russia's conventional forces are far from back up to strength and Putin knows this.
Some tit for tat cyber warfare exchanges are far more likely.

It's funny in a way because after living through the cold war, when I read about incidents like Russian bombers flying close to US it doesn't get me excited at all. Rather it feels like things are just getting back to "normal" with the Russians.

Actually, it appears the Russian story was about Russian officials and wealthy elites having their families living and going to school abroad being viewed badly by Russians. It cites an example of a Russian government official's kid who came back from living oversees with a foreign accent. I sure hope our bombers haven't passed the fail safe point yet and we can turn them around from this false alarm.
