MAJ Ken Landgren - I was active duty during the Cold War. There were stories about the abuse of Russian troops from basic through their entire enlistment. The recruit arrived at basic and anything of value was stolen and the recruiter was physically abused. After basic training the recruit was sent to his unit and the same same thing went on. At the time there was talk of the vertical stroke. If something went wrong the punishment started at the lowest level and depending on severity of the screw up it might stop at brigade level, post command level etc. The whole focus was to contain mistakes to the lowest level possible. Seems not much has changed.

This war is a proving ground for hand held missiles a drones. It is also quite a revelation how inept their army is. Nobody should attack using tanks in a column. That is so foolish. I knew that as a 2LT. I will talk about Tank Tactics later.
