All this does is fund the government for another three weeks. Then all bets are off if it doesn't look like Mitch will honor his word (he hasn't in the past, just ask the lady senator from Maine). The Republicans gave up very little to get enough Democratic votes to move forward.....so the question is: Why couldn't they have made that same offer before the government was shut down? The entire episode could have been avoided with just a little bit of "give" on the part of the Republicans. Whatever happened to compromise?

Cpl (Join to see) - Compromise is weakness? Without it, nothing gets accomplished in our system of government. Our system was devised in such a way that even the smallest states have a voice, even the least populated states have a voice, and the party in the minority has a voice. It was designed so that compromise, meaning all sides have input, is the only way forward. Many of the things that make us who we are, the things that are considered to be our greatest accomplishments as a people, would not have happened if the people in our government weren't willing to compromise. Compromise is strength......as evidenced by the fact that actions that are the result of compromise stand the test of time. They last because everyone has a stake in making them work. Those things that are rammed through, without compromise, generally falter and lose support over time......and are eventually reversed at first opportunity. We see this time and time again.

It's the same deal. There's nothing new in the bill language. They only thing McConnell did was "promise" to open DACA talks.

Had he "promised" that earlier, maybe no shut down. Was that so hard for him to do?

Legislative gridlock means they aren't passing laws arbitrarily taking liberties which belong to us; Articles IX and X of the Bill of Rights. What makes you believe THEY can legislate advancement, that's what the free market does and has done since our founding. The only thing they should do is ensure a free and competitive market. Today? not so much. There is too much corporatism, or crony capitalist influence in the laws being written by compromised politicians that protect big business while stifling innovation. There are too many millionaires running the country, it's time that the average citizen regained power.

AND, the lamestream press would NEVER have described this settlement as a loss if it were possible in any way to spin a victory out of it.
