Back when SARS came out, it only took a month to find the Vector of Transmission was from Bird to bird, and then to humans. It was a "Pet bird" disease that found a host in "Chickens", and we eat chickens. So they separated fowl from Polly the Parrot, and slowed that end. On the other end, it only took another few weeks to come up with what the Virus itself looked like, and within ninety days, they had a vaccine.
The key was the rapid exchange of Scientific Data, and Health Professionals working together. Open lines of research, and computer speed spread of results of studies- and we avoided a Pandemic. Let's hope this one works out the same way. If knowledge spreads faster than the virus, that is a great advantage.
