Second recruit dies at Parris Island, third major incident this year

The Marine Corps’ East Coast training depot at Parris Island, South Carolina, has been rocked by the death of another recruit, the third major incident there this year.
The recruit, assigned to the 2nd Recruit Training Battalion, was pronounced dead on Friday evening at Beaufort Memorial Hospital after being found unconscious in his bed after 8 p.m., said Capt. Gregory Carroll, a spokesman for Parris Island.
"The Marine Corps has notified the family and are ensuring they are supported during this difficult time," Carroll said on Saturday.
Separately, another recruit who suffered severe injuries after falling two stories at Parris Island on Oct. 28 remains in critical condition, Carroll said.
The Marine Corps has not released the name of either recruit. Both incidents are under investigation.
Parris Island has come under scrutiny from lawmakers after a Muslim recruit died there in March after vaulting over a barracks stairwell and falling nearly 40 feet. Raheel Siddiqui, 20, was assigned to the 3 rd Recruit Training Battalion, where drill instructors routinely slapped and choked recruits, an investigation into his death found.
Up to 20 Marines at Parris Island are under investigations for allegations of abuse against recruits and other incidents. So far, none has been charged, referred to court-martial or administratively disciplined.
Then on Oct. 28, a recruit at Parris Island fell from the second story of the recruit processing center only four days after arriving at the training depot.
Witnesses told investigators it appeared that the recruit intentionally jumped, but friends of his family have disputed that he jumped on purpose.
“This is far from the truth,” one family friend tweeted on Saturday “He was a warrior and would never! Where are those witnesses???”

A few yrs ago, I sent for the records in my Mom's Dad, who's been drafted during WW2 into USMC just before Us I Jima, I think, though I never knew for certain. Apparently, he didn't adjust well, and often wrote my grandmother about missing her and my Mom and her brother, my would-be uncle ( whom none of us in our family can stand, or his spoiled wife, our so-called aunt, for myriad reasons, we could never understand how my grandfather could miss him). My grandfather was taciturn, dour, moody, and never spoke of it, we never asked about it, as we'd learned only much later that he'd been sent home from Parris Island due to not adjusting. I always tend to think in retrospect that he became as hard as he frequently seemed because of the whole thing having happened, I couldn't glean much from his NPRC records, they didn't relate mucg, however, given what I recall of his personality, that must, I think, have been one really hard place, I'd gathered, so far as I could judge, he was the only one of our family who'd ever gone USMC....

This recruit hadn't even started training yet. For those who don't know about Marine Corps Boot camp"Receiving" Company, while it might seem harsh to civilians, is about as low stress as Boot camp gets. The recruits are Given haircuts, Shots, initial dental Checkups, issued uniforms and gear and put into platoons. They do no physical training and can not be punished by making them do incentive training.
If a recruit "breaks" in receiving they had absolutely no business ceing in the Marine Corps in the first place,

That is sad news SFC Joe S. Davis Jr., MSM, DSL that a second USMC recruit has died at Marine Corps’ East Coast training depot at Parris Island, South Carolina.
Hopefully the recruit who suffered severe injuries after falling two stories at Parris Island will pull through.
