Who would have thought that one day, taking a leak would be controversial?

This is really can be fun at the urinalysis where the Observer is a female observing a transgender female who didn't finish the operation even after the gender marker was changed in deers but she has to use a urinal to give her sample.

First off MGySgt, you've missed a key point of the article. This is about accepting transgender recruits. There are already active duty service members who are transgender who are serving. Some have changed gender markers, some are still in the process of doing so & others have yet to even start transitioning. Male & Female heads work just fine. This is about how open service will work in the zero privacy environment of Basic/Boot.
I just spent last week shadowing MTIs at USAF Basic. One of the questions I asked was about LGB recruits & did it ever cause issues within the flight. The answer I got was no. I imagine it will be the same with transgender recruits. This is a new generation coming through & they just don't really care about the things that were such hot topics 5-10 years ago.
To MAJ Conway, there are work-arounds out there for transgender service members regarding DDRP. There is a Shy Bladder Waiver that allows active duty members to follow civilian DDRP procedures. Some bases are choosing to implement this as their base-wide policy for transgender members. The toilet water is dyed blue. The member is escorted to the stall, closes the door & collects the specimen in private, then exits the stall without flushing & transfer sample to testing bottle in front of observer.
