They filmed parts of Top Gun while I was on the USS Ranger. I met Anthony Edwards as he came down to the Mardet after be askex to by the Admiral's orderly. Very nice guy.

I know that my favorite stunt pilot, Art Scholl, was killed filming spins for the movie. I wasn't aware of the whole avoiding WWIII angle, but when Maverick and Iceman work together, anything is possible.
