Well, actually, in that specific film, mthemdepiction at the end wasn't public, ifmtoud noticed, it was in fact in a prison, though the device used was considerably smaller than I'd have expected, I'd actually seen the reap one shown in a documentary, I believe it was in the base!ent of the Reichstag in Berlin, if I recall correctly. However, as you say, at that time, after WW2 ended in Europe there was as you'd mentioned numerous such instances done publicly, if you check YouTube, there are apparently several actually shown for various war crimimals, esp. In the Eastern European countries, Poland, Czechoslovakia, Russia, Belarus, and the Ukraine, from what I'd seen listed, as well as the strictly military ones done in Germany. Clearly, that was a far different period in history, public ire was generated, and, while not all were done that way, clearly, as you'd described, a goodly number apparently were, I'd gathered.

I don't know where your source gets it's information. It is a town square in northern France before the Germans came. I guess that is what people did for entertainment before Television

What a brilliant film. Thanks for posting. I had heard of the White Rose and read of them but did not know there was a film about the event.
