Thanks for reminding us TSgt Joe C. that on May 19, 1588 the doomed Spanish Armada set sail. Sir Francis Drake's able leadership and the longer range of the British cannon enabled the smaller British fleet to cause significant damage to the Spanish Armada.
God was opposed to the Spanish that day as a raging storm helped to finish off much of the Armada.

Interesting tale. The fight against the Spanish Amada cost the English its new colony in what is now North Carolina. All ships in English ports were requisitioned into the fight by order of the Queen. Sir Walter Raleigh was acquiring supplies for the Roanoke colony, and its population included Virginia Dare, the grand-daughter for Raleigh and the first English baby born in the New World. Raleigh was delayed for about 2 years in London and when he returned to the colony's site he found only ruins & many questions concerning the fate of the colonists.
