I have never felt like I'm underappreciated for my service. As for this statistic, "resulting in an astonishing 90% of service members surveyed saying that the general public does not truly understand the sacrifices made by them and their families" that is not because the general public isn't empathetic, I believe it is because they haven't experienced it. That is why SMs say the public doesn't understand. People can't imagine the pain, stress and hardship of the military-because they don't have the same experience on a day to day basis. Let us be the quiet professionals and thank our nation for their support, but not demand they know what it is like to walk a day in our shoes.

Lt, I'm on board, quiet professional is best. However, civilians that think they know it all and use this erroneous self anointed complex to our detriment should get schooled a bit.

I tend to feel this is a figment of some reporter's mind. Never saw it since Vietnam days during my AD and not at all after retiring.
