Two nieces and my wife's side of the family killed themselves and both had alcohol as a factor. Both of them were despondent and under the ages of 15. Isolation can be a factor if you're on an Indian reserve and especially if you have parents that have addictions as well. There is no resiliency and people give up with something as stupid as breaking up with a boyfriend. 2 months ago, I came back from a feast that natives in Canada have and it was the third anniversary of this twenty-something native teenager who seem to have everything going for her and again it was a breakup and alcohol was a factor. They have a Steve send a giveaway and basically they celebrate /grievefor three years mourning the loss a family member in Canada's Cree tribe. Happy pictures of the deceased woman were passed around so you can remember her. The Chiefs and Elders discussed about addictions and how they had to be haunted by their addictions but these men are in their fifties and sixties and they survived. They still seem to smoke quite a bit though. Marijuana use is rapid in these rural areas and legalizing it will not make it any better. Canada legalized pot last October
