I was getting ready for the drive to the Pendleton Round-Up that morning. After the second plane, I was calling the armory to see if we were being activated. That night was the first time in my life, there were zero planes in the sky.

Yeah. I was conducting an online military history class for American Military University when one of my students announced that a plane had just flown into one of the twin towers. I turned on the TV and told everybody to sign off--that we had more important things to worry about . . .

Been there once--for a Military Order of the Purple Heart national convention. Very nice place.
