John McCain was born in Panama and ran for President in 2008, Mitt Romey's father ran for President in 1964 but was born in Mexico to missionary parents, so knowing history is important here. As long as you are born a citizen then you are eligible. Cruz was born a citizen and is therefore eligible. When some politicians fail to compete with him on real issues they have to stoop to things like this.

If somebody for example is born to American service members while they are stationed overseas, do you really think they would not be eligible to be President just because their American parents were serving our country at the time of their birth? Shame on those who make these claims just because they can't win on the real issues.

PO2 Steven Erickson - That's not a very good picture to use....... :-).... Nobody in their right mind would use a ball peen hammer for nails... of course, maybe that's why those nails are so poorly hammered and bent all up...... Regardless the technical issues, I agree with your sentiment, and with the comments of LTC Yinon Weiss on the matter.

SSG Gerhard S. ... Excellent points, BUT I'm a nuclear-ttained electrician with a degree in Physics. I'm one of the few members of that "species" who can tell the difference between a hammer and a wrench! 7:^D

Exactly the facts are out there but people love to beat a dead horse. Just because you can argue a point does not make it valid.

Actually, there are a few questions regarding Mr.Cruz' mother's history that need to be answered prior to a firm answer on this issue. The reason for that is the change in immigration and naturalization laws through the 1900s. I don't have the guide or dates in front of me, but depending on how long his mother spent in the US prior to her move to Canada, he may not in fact be eligible. The issue has never been pushed because the term "natural born" has never been defined, partly because nobody wanted to pull the rug out from under those servicemembers' kids.

A child born to an American citizen is a natural born American. That makes both Obama and Cruz eligible. A child born on American soil to parents who are not US citizens is a "natural born" US citizen under a misinterpretation of the Constitution, sadly one that has stood the test of flawed court decisions.

I'm not sure that the last part is a misinterpretation of the Constitution so much as never having had been challenged in court or by the states. From what I've read, birthright citizenship does confer to the children of legal immigrants but I don't think the question of whether it applies to the children of illegal aliens has ever been put to the court as much as it has just been assumed to be so.

SGT (Join to see) I concur with CPT Jack Durish's assessment of constitutional law that a child born to an American citizen is a natural born American. The first several Presidents were not American citizens when they were born since the USA did not exists. That is the primary reason that natural citizenship was not a test for fitness for the POTUS.
Sen Ted Cruz is entitled to run for the office of POTUS.
I was born in this country to British citizens and received British citizenship as a result. In those day dual citizenship between england and USA was permitted. I became a citizen of the USA and renounced my British citizenship when I enlisted in 1974.

The British Nationality Act conflicts with a portion of natural born citizen provisions providing one of the parents is a British subject and is in part one of the lawsuits that were filed against obama and his birth status. Kenya at one time was british commonwealth which ended in 1963. If I recall correctly, obama's father would have been subject to british law at the time of BO's birth in "hawaii." I wonder if obama ever renounced his british citizenship.

Outstanding comments! I never knew anything about dual citizenship until this thread came along. As with LTC Stephen Ford, I'm a citizen of Heaven and the United States.
