Maj Robert Thornton Sad situation that a service member died because someone was screwing around. I clearly remember in boot camp the drill instructors telling us, "Don't point a weapon at anyone unless you plan to kill them."

Exactly Cpl Vic Burk. I took one of my enlisted troops dove hunting. Unfortunately we didn’t hunt. His safety with the shotgun was horrendous, I doubt know how many time he painted me with his barrel.
I had him eject all three rounds and put his shotgun in the case. I then went through everything he did incorrectly. We headed back to base.
I did take him out again, this time with safe gun handling.
