COL Ted Mc As tempting as it may be to pull the cork from the bottle, history suggests that the "Genie" is much easier to get out of the bottle, than it is to get it back in. While a clean sweep of of our enemies may seem to be an honorable goal, the use of nuclear weapons by the US could lead to others countries believing that this, "final solution", so long a taboo in "civilized" society, is now a spectator sport. How would the US be able to condemn the actions of N. Korea nuking S. Korea, or Russia using tactical nuclear ammunition in the Ukraine, if we were the first to use such a terrible weapon?

We don't want to take that genie out of the bottle until our existence is on the line.

Capt Seid Waddell - Captain; The issue isn't so much "Would the US actually do this?" as it is "Does threatening genocide make the people you are threatening to kill friendlier to you or does it make them more inclined to resist you and do whatever they can do to harm you before you wipe them out?".

The "reality" IS NOT that the threat is likely to be carried out. Rather the "reality" IS that the threat has been made.

COL Ted Mc, sir, the problematical segment of the Muslim world cannot be made more inclined to resist us - they are self-starters in that regard. The rest of the Muslim world leans more toward the extremists than they do towards us.

Capt Seid Waddell - Captain; Whenever someone says "the problematical segment of the __[fill in the blank]__ world cannot be made more inclined to resist us - they are self-starters in that regard." they get no argument from me.

I'm not so sure that "The rest of the Muslim world leans more toward the extremists than they do towards us." is correct but I'm sure that "The rest of the Muslim world leans more toward Islam than they do towards Christianity." is correct.

I'm equally sure that the people of ANY country/religion/philosophy would prefer to do whatever is best for themselves and their country/religion/philosophy rather than doing whatever is best for the people of another country/religion/philosophy and countries/religions/philosophies other than their own.

AND I'm equally sure that the people of ANY country/religion/philosophy who believe that they are being prevented from doing whatever is best for themselves and their country/religion/philosophy and "forced" into doing doing whatever is best for the people of another country/religion/philosophy and countries/religions/philosophies other than their own will tend to be significantly displeased with the people that they perceive as doing the "forcing".

[NOTE - In the last statement particular emphasis should be placed on the words "believe" and "perceive" since, in this case, whether or not the beliefs and/or perceptions are actually true is irrelevant.

SSG Warren Swan - Staff; I believe that it has something to do with the First Amendment.

Although everyone has the "right" to speak freely, there is no corresponding "right" to be taken seriously.
