This interpretation of the 2nd Amendment is not new to the 1619 Project. I have heard it circulating in liberal talking point circles for years. It is based on cherry picked facts, and has no real basis. I view it as nothing more than an attempt to shame gun owners by attaching the stigma of slavery to gun ownership. It falls slat on its face when one takes all the facts into account.
