Mosul offensive folds, waiting now for Trump
There is no chance of the Mosul offensive scoring a victory before Barack Obama quits the White House next month. Altogether 54,000 Iraqi troops and 5,000 US servicemen – supported by 90 warplanes and 150 heavy artillery pieces - were invested in the Mosul campaign when it was launched in October. They proved unable to beat 9,000 jihadists.

LTC Eric Udouj - Thank you for your responce.
To me, it is not the Iraqi army. It is the Iraqi Shiite army. If I am correct, This is Sunni land being fought over. This will be tribal war and we will have chosen a side.
If you feel up to it, please correct me if I am wrong.
Have a good day Sir.

The Shia army is the one to the west of the river. It is Iranian supported and advised. The US advised Iraqi Army is to the west of the river.... and is mostly Shia. You are more likely correct - we are seen as having taken sides.... though should be said that the Shia see us as having sided with the Kurds.

It really is not mine to say the answer to that.. not because I can not - but would be nice to here the POTUS say it since he sent the forces there to train and advise. Maybe GEN Votel could answer the question....
