Good morning COL Mikel J. Burroughs looking forward to Cindy pictures!
Some people seem to want to just float along in life while others look for the opportunities to navigate the more difficult places (the rocks and the rapids). You will never know what you can do unless you challenge yourself. You can do so much more than you think. When I look back to my 18 year old self, I had no idea I would become an Air Force officer, a college instructor, a school counselor, a therapist and a Red Cross volunteer. All that was in my future and I could see none of it. However, when the opportunities arose, even though I wasn't at all sure I could do it, I gave it my best at the time and my life took a different road. Where are you now that you did not expect to be by taking and overcoming a challenge?

I know for me was to become an Army instructor which it never crossed my mind I would ever do. But the opportunity came, and I embraced it. I can say I was super nervous about the idea of just standing there and speak to a room full of people, everyone looking at me. Every year we had to be evaluated to make sure the instructors were putting out the right information to the students. Each one of those times I got nervous. I ended up becoming pretty good at it once I incorporated my own experiences from the field/deployments onto the lectures which made me feel a little more comfortable. It kinda made me mad when the Army came up with Instructor's Badge after I retired because I would've luv to get one. But, at least I can say that I did it.

Heavenly Father I pray that YOU will make it crystal clear which challenges we the adopted sons and daughters of YOU should overcome on our own and which we should seek help and which we need to go around as YOU lead us. We need wisdom and discernment as how to overcome an obstacle and identify who is trustworthy as we approach obstacles. Give each of us the courage and endurance to tackle the obstacles in YOUR timing. In the power and authority of the Name above all names, Jesus the Christ.

My opportunity came after I had left the military and became a Boilermaker. After several years in the craft my Business Manager asked me to take a general foreman position. It was supposed to have been a small crew of boilermakers on the night shift, no problem. That was not the case. I ended up with four foreman's and about 75 boilermakers many of them with very limited skills. It was in January/February and people were getting sick with flu like symptoms. But we all rose up to the occasion and pulled our share of the load. We just never did give up. It was progress albeit slow at times but we overcame.
