It really should be time for intelligent people to come to the realization criminals do what they do with whatever is available and they alone are responsible for their actions.

Most of the "gun violence" in Mexico is Cartel Violence. The cartels have well-established TWO-WAY smuggling routes between their headquarters in Mexico and their operations in the US. Drugs and people flow north, money, guns, and technology flow south.
If both countries took the border seriously the problem would be sharply curtailed in both countries, but neither country is doing anything to stop it. Mexico maintains fairly tight security for tourists but official corruption lets the cartels flow freely. The US used to take the border seriously for tourists but did little to stop organized (cartel) trafficking. Now the current administration is part of the organized trafficking in both directions.
