SO, If one did not save, did not invest, accrued unpaid debt, and had no other plans for retirement, it is someone else's fault that he/she has no retirement nest egg.

The key, folks is to plan for retirement.

Most of the time, not being prepared for the future is a matter of poor decision making. There are safety nets for those that have had the bad fortune to be left out in the cold for no reason on their part. However, when the lazy bums that just won't work for a living in reaching deep into the pot, some one will always lose. Usually those that really need help.

That is a pretty doom and gloom article with some serious political leanings. I may have missed it, but I didn't notice in there anywhere in the article where it stated that people have a personal responsibility for themselves. The age of instant gratification has seemed to kill off the idea of future planning. Many of us are still hanging onto the 'old way' and teaching our children patience, planning, and the value of work and to recognize articles like this for what they are...examples to further divide people and push a political ideology.

1SG. back a few years up when the man of the family handles the money. Sometimes to wife didn't know anything about the money. But we still see that. I talked to a woman once that had no idea that she was broke when her husband passed. That's the one I feel for. Alos some never made the money it took for a savings. I learning saving early but at my pay back in the time period of 08-56 to 08-76 we din't make much but i still managed to save some. The SS and Medicare will divide us more when Grandma and Grandpas starts dropping dead. I do believe that is the master plan for us over 75.

I didn't see where Congress raided SS a while back. Money, never saw a potilical that didn't lose money and always find ways to spend it. Enough I wasted on usual less projects that we would have quite such a bad problem. Read the waste book and see the crap money is thrown at. And how do those in Congress manage to get so rich while in office? Some of these people working for the government are they really worth that much. More accountability is needed.
