The venerable .30-30 deserves the utmost respect. In fact, not too long ago, it was said (authoritatively) that the .30-30 had brought down more whitetail deer than any other caliber. Not sure if that continues to hold true, but it's a fine round for the woods around my A.O. I still prefer a rifle round rather than a carbine round, but I have "blooded" a number of carbine rounds, even the weak pistol/carbine/rifle .44-40 round, not to mention 5.56, and
