Here is another Liberal mental giant is incapable of COMPREHENDING historical fact. Liberals can whine, stomp their feet, suck on their pacifiers and riot in the streets all day long. Nonetheless as John Adams once opined "..Facts are stubborn things; and whatever may be our wishes, our inclinations, or the dictates of our passions, they cannot alter the state of facts and evidence...." Unfortunately, for the mental midgets that aspire to liberal ideology, Dr. Swain is correct and nothing delusional liberals can say will alter historical fact.

Everything in there is true as far as it goes. It is also largely true that both major parties had large ideological shifts since then. About the only similarity the modern Democratic and Republican parties have to their 19th century counterparts is their names.

@brad sand without getting into my thoughts on the matter, I think that is a fair statement. One party talks small government up but in practice believes just in much in big government when it comes to the programs they want.

Agree or disagree with what? She is just quoting historical facts. Sure, our Nation is almost historically illiterate and the Left tries to rewrite history to hide these and other fact, I.E. Nationalsozialismus (NAZI)/National Socialist are and were Socialist on a national level.

Communism is on the left because on the intention to take over all privately held businesses and industries. to make plans every year to build so many hospitals and schools and the like. it is true that in order to make the dream "work" Lenin did give into some authoritative governmental practices but that in no less diminishes that his government came from the left not the right. and no one is saying Communism is cool again. at least I am not saying that. what I am saying is that Hitler's Germany and Stalin's Russia were the two most separated, politically, powers of the twentieth century. we stand against both forms because they are so different from where we stand in different ways. Communism vs. Capitalism or Freedom vs. Police state.

TSgt (Join to see) - Nobody is "lay[ing] the crimes of" communism or national socialism at the feel of American political parties. Their crimes are their crimes, not ours. But that doesn't mean the ideologies can't be linked or related. The links between the American left and communism are fairly well established. But National Socialism is just as left as communism. Under Hitler, the Germans nationalized and socialized their entire health care system, something liberals in America have been wanting for decades. They did the same with their auto industry, and pretty much everything else. That is the antithesis (opposite) of the American right.

Haven't you heard the jokes about the NAZIs getting the trains on time? Yes, the National Socialist were better at controlling the economy of Germany but they were in control. Also, the Communists are even farther to the Left than the Socialists but they are both on the Left.
I have no idea where you are getting the misbelief that the Germany and Russia so separated in the 1930/40s? Both were government controlled economies and police states...that hated each other.

· Money lenders and profiteers punished
· State control of Education
· State control of media and the press
· State control of banks and industries
· Seizure of land without compensation
· State control of religious expression
Read this list at a democratic convention today and possibly aside from death as punishment, they would be absolutely for it

In 1931, Weimar authorities discovered plans for a Nazi takeover in which Jews would be denied food and persons refusing to surrender their guns within 24 hours would be executed. They were written by Werner Best, a future Gestapo official. In reaction to such threats, the government authorized the registration of all firearms and the confiscation thereof, if required for “public safety.” The interior minister warned that the records must not fall into the hands of any extremist group. This particular policy was not anything to do with the Nazis, but the removal of guns was implemented and kept under Nazi occupation.
