When I took my degree in History (UNC-Charlotte) a lot of the Professors thought that World War I...yes One, not TWo- didn't end until the Wall came down in Berlin in 1989. The thinking goes along the lines that there just weren't any young me left to fight by the end of November in 1918. And those that did go got slaughtered.
So everyone held off for a generation to grow a new crop of eighteen year olds with dreams of Glory and Heroic acts in their minds to send back to the slaughter. I think that line of thinking has some merit to it.
