My Dad (God ret his soul) worked security during the '84 Olympics in L.A. More specifically, he worked at Pauley Pavilion, where the gymnastics were held; in fact, he was on-duty the night Mary Lou Retton did her legendary gold medal-winning vault.

Haha, thanks Chip. Dad didn't actually get to meet Mary Lou, but he did meet Peter Ueberoth (sp?), the Olympic Commissioner.

I commented on the thread that Sgt Wayne Wood posted about this.
I think it is an atrocious idea. LA cannot handle the burden of this, and untold numbers of low income people will be displaced by Eminent Domain and lose any chance of finding housing.

Hell, while we're at it, let's just disband the Olympics altogether, since it's apparently such a destroyer of local economies....cultural and historical significance and peaceful convergence of multiple nations' athletes be damned!

LCDR Rabbah Rona Matlow - I read PLENTY of history books, and watch plenty of historical documentaries as well, and again, I've come across nary a claim about poor persons being displaced by the construction of Dodger Stadium. However, I AM aware from personal observation that the neighborhoods near the Stadium tend to be on the poor side, and the Dodger games do much to infuse much-needed revenue into the local economy.
Good day to you.
