I think they might of been nervous when allied aircraft went over as well during rain, snow, or hours of limited visibility.

Move them out!

I've always loved the half-track. When I was with in Germany in the1980s we found a bunch of these waiting to be towed out to be used as targets at Grafenwoehr.
