Douglas MacArthur was considered to be a serious presidential contender by many before Dwight D. Eisenhower got the nod.
MacArthur was a true hero who dedicated his life to this nation. He shaped post-war diplomacy with Japan and helped to turn our implacable enemy into one of our staunchest allies.
He understood the complicity of China and the USSR to a lesser degree in the Korean conflict. He also understood absolute war and unconditional surrender while brutal are the only combination to end a war. In the Cold War courage of conviction was not as common as in WWII.
