MY first SLR was a real classic ... still have it albeit not in working condition. Canon Flex 35mm The first Canon SLR when it was introduced in 1959. In fact one of the first period, there were only 6 SLR models in the world at that time.

Love my digital camera ... miss film in some ways, especially the processing of it, there was something magical about watching the image appear ...

Agreed, PO1 Kevin Dougherty. If it wasn't for being able to take multitudes of photos at once and being able to see if I got the shot I was trying for right then, I would still be using film. There's just so much more that I could do with my film camera that I can't replicate with digital.

On the flip side, you can definitely do things a lot better with a digital that you could have never done as well with film. The high end ones have resolutions better than Kodacolor32, and shooting in RAW way more latitude. Not that I have anything even approaching a high end camera, but if you have and are willing to spend the bucks....

My carry camera these days is a Canon SX50, a higher end all in one. Gives me full manual control, is compact, and light enough to carry almost all the time, and cheap enough I don't worry about it being in the car or getting bumped while I am doing something stupid to get the shot I want ... and I do that far too often according to my wife.
