The Strange B-17 that terrified the Luftwaffe

This B-17 had a rarely used front nose attachment with 6-50 caliber machine guns. This plane was the Squadron leader. It barely made it back to England.

That chin turret looks like it made the plane ungainly and difficult to fly. I bet it stopped the plane in mid-air when they were fired.

Terrified the Luftwaffe may be a bit of a stretch. The preferred attack was from the rear or sides, not head on.
