Some workers asked the management for PPE. The management offered them a cash bonus instead.

MSG Stan Hutchison Now it Looks Like they'll need to Throw More Money at the Problem. Like Most Problems if they Handled It Better Sooner, It May have been Cheaper in the Long Run.

I can get different brands rather than risk my health on their brands, which are:
Smithfield, Eckrich, Nathan’s Famous, Farmland, Armour, Farmer John, Kretschmar, John Morrell, Cook’s, Gwaltney, Carando, Margherita, Curly’s, Healthy Ones, Morliny, Krakus, and Berlinki.

Capt Gregory Prickett It's Interesting the Smithfield bought out Farmlands a Long Time Ago. They sell the Better Quality under the Smithfield Name though even though the "Farmlands" Brand still exist.

PO1 William "Chip" Nagel - they did the same with Armour, which was split between Conagra and Smithfield, and Eckrich.

Often at these type of processing plants there are those who are not working here legally. They don't feel they have the right to protest conditions and so things happen that should not.

Peeling back the onion - "The workforce at Smithfield is made up largely of immigrants and refugees from places like Myanmar, Ethiopia, Nepal, Congo and El Salvador. There are 80 different languages spoken in the plant. Estimates of the mean hourly wage range from $14-16 an hour. Those hours are long, the work is gruelling, and standing on a production line often means being less than a foot away from your co-workers on either side."
