The Navy is struggling to fix its new Ford-class supercarriers, so the service has called in outside experts to help find a solution amid delivery delays and rising costs.
The advanced weapons elevators, critical systems that the secretary of the Navy bet his job on, are one of the biggest problems. Only two of the 11 electromagnetic lifts on the USS Gerald R. Ford are operational.
The advanced weapons elevators on the Ford-class carriers are designed to move 20,000 pounds of munitions up to the flight deck at a rate of 150 feet per minute, a significant improvement over elevators on the Nimitz-class aircraft carriers, which are able to lift only 10,500 pounds at 100 feet per minute. These lifts are crucial to increasing the aircraft sortie rate, which in turn would increase the lethality of the new carriers over their predecessors.

is the Gerald R Ford class is that equivalent of the overpriced F- 35 junk Strike Fighter of aircraft carriers? Is that also true that there are so few docks available for maintenance our Navy that our Navy Readiness is suffering as well? Just think, if we had to get our ships fixed in a hurry, we couldn't do it in the case of having to defend Taiwan or having to gear up for any limited War. I'm not worried about climate change, I'm worried about our Force projection being limited by maintenance being pushed back due to lack of service Bays /drydocks available for our aging Navy. Iran is going over the threshold today and I wouldn't be surprised that the Holocaust- denying crazy Iranians will be threatening Israel with a nuclear-tipped missiles by 2021. Israel is ready for this and they already have a Triad system in place.
I'm not worried about global warming, I'm worried about global cooling due to a nuclear war that could have been prevented or China taking on Taiwan and we will be short-handed aircraft carriers 2 confront the three or four that they will have online by the same time 2021. Hopefully they fix this Ford Edsel of aircraft carriers.
