I'll admit that driving isn't the same for me. My drivers license was my ticket of admission to adulthood. My car was my chariot to untold adventures. I even had aspirations of racing cars until I actually got on a clay track and found myself surrounded by other drivers who had a less refined instinct for survival than I. Still, public transportation isn't viable, not here in Southern California suburbia nor in 99% of America. Until We the People invent and perfect the transporter (a la Star Trek), government will just have to stifle its urge to control and stay the hell out of the fast lane

A man's first car is a sacred thing. Mine was a 1960 MGA 1600 rag top. It broke down on me about twice a month, had no side windows, and I couldn't get parts for it......not even an oil filter. But I loved it........absolutely loved it!

Great piece on cars. I don't understand the group that is trying to outlaw cars. I'll grant you that in some of the more congested urban areas a car can be more of a pain, but what about the other 95% of the country? There is no mas transit in rural or even in most of suburban America. I am with you CPT Jack Durish I'll keep my car and drive myself.
