No Kidding. If we needed to put a force the size of USAR-Vietnam in vs North Korea or Taiwan the fight would be over before we got. Best example would be the early days of the Korean War, They scraped up whatever they could find and fed it into the meatgrinder

Great article, thanks LTC Eric Udouj ! I have seen a similar trend towards bureaucratic avoidance of risk (peacetime promotion criteria) and away from initiative and risk-taking in the Air Force. German soldiers' respect for the American WWII GI was not due to his weapons or even our superior logistics train. It was respect for grit, ingenuity, resourcefulness, initiative, many of the qualities this article highlights. I fear we will not accept these qualities as pre-eminent requirements until we are once again defending our homeland on US soil, as the weaker foe.
