Thanks for reminding us PFC (Join to see) that the last living Japanese WWII soldier to surrender to the allies came out of hiding in the Philippines in 1974.
Most Japanese army holdouts after 1945, died or were killed quietly by locals so that thye decayed where they fell in Jungles from New Guinea through the Philippines to Southeast and southern Asia.

It was just interesting story. I have no particular love for the guy he killed a few Filipinos in his guerilla war I had to have believe he must have known the war was over essentially so those kills were an act of murder.

Thanks for posting this. Reminded me of being on Guam when the last Japanese soldier was discovered there, think it was 1970 or 71. Lots of coverage about how he evaded for all those years. Given how populated Guam is and all the American activity on the island it's a really amazing story.

That's very amazing seeing how Guam is an American territory with a large military presence did that soldier engage anybody during his time there after the war.

No, as I recall he said he would go to beaches to catch fish etc, but would immediately leave if he saw anyone. He lived in caves, of which Guam has many, and would move to a new one if too many people were around. Stretching my memory here, but as a recall the cave he was living in when discovered acutally wasn't all that far from Anderson AFB.
