PO2 Harold Ashton I'm not here to be liked. I'm here to engage in discussions no matter the topic. If folks are uncomfortable with that, they don't have to engage with me.

Remember this:
Use of force is judged on the reasonable perception of the officer “at the time”, not by us as we sit on our couches.
Blake was the subject of a 911 call for a physical domestic.
Blake was armed with a knife at the domestic.
Blake was wanted on felony warrants.
Blake had previous assaults on police.
Blake has a knife in his hands as he exited the house.
Officers deployed taser. Blake fought through it.
Blake was non compliant, and at gun point went to his vehicle.
As he entered the vehicle, he appears to be reaching for something. Blake was known to keep a gun in his car.
What is important is this: what did the officer perceive at that moment? At that precise moment.
Our police do an incredible job every day. Let it play out in the court.

LTC David Brown Absolutely. There have definitely been bad officers.
Not however-blanket/widespread aka “narrative “ all cops are bad...that’s my point.

CMSgt James Nolan - Then, apply that same good sense and logic to calling out people who group-insult those "lefties," "Dems," "rioters," etc. Then we will find common ground.

CMSgt James Nolan - I agree 100%. Out of millions of encounters and arrests very few end up in excessive force and violence. I have watched videos of cops getting cussed out, sworn at and treated like crap and they are very professional. I have two things tha really really bother the hell out of me. Before the facts are in people play the race card. The shooting of Blake was not racial. Blake made a whole series f bad decisions. Any time anything goes on people riot and loot. If Black lives mattered why don’t these people work to solve the problems that are killing Blacks? If you bring up black on Black crime, drug over doses, gang violence that isn’t legitimate. Explain to me why? Why isn’t BLM in the violent neighborhoods trying to reduce the crime taking Black lives? 1, 2 and 3 year ld black kids lives matter also, I would think, but I am an old white guy, but maybe they don’t in the Black Lives Matter calculus.

LTC David Brown what you said regarding a series of bad decisions is spot on. He had every opportunity to not escalate/and to de-escalate.
The police didn’t choose to go after him, they were called to him.

Whatever it takes to bring this racial strife to an end.
Although it seldom happens, when I do encounter discrimination or racism, I do not remain silent. I raise hell right then and there. Gonna yell at somebody for speaking their native language or some other asinine bullshit? Not around me, you won't. This old man will get real loud, real fast.
