It appears some officials there in Canada need to wake up a support the Canadian Armed Forces and not only maintain what is there but develop need badly needed systems. This neglect is criminal ! Also Biden has hurt both Canada and the United State by actually selling our domestic Oil to Communist Mainland China. and without even Congressional approval. You don't see that in the news media, what a cover up. How would i know that ? well knowing actual crew members of the oil tankers and even a Captain, a good friend of mine, on one now returning from China. There even made to fly the Chinese Flag on American Ships entering those waters when the were heading into that area of the ocean.

Any nation has to budget for numerous expenses - part of the budget process is to evaluate the need for each expense.

Clearly the Canadian Army needs money for newer and better equipment as well as to maintain its existing equipment. Or does it?

The Canadian Army needs money, but does Canada need the Canadian Army? Who is Canada defending against? The Canadian Army has been deployed several times since Canada was established as a country, but never in defense of Canada itself. The last time Canadians fought to defend their country it wasn't even Canada yet.

The only nation that has ever conducted a military attack against Canada was the United States, during the War of 1812, although perhaps we came close again in the mid-1840's during the negotiations with Britain over the border of the Oregon Territory (now the state of Washington). I do recall that in the early 1960's the Canadian Prime Minister made a speech about strengthening the border in case the US would try to "re-invade Canada" but I don't think anyone on either side of the border took him very seriously.

As a NATO member, Canada has a commitment to spend at least 2% of GDP on defense, but like many other NATO members Canada spends significant less (under 1.3%). Even if Canada were willing to devote 2% of GDP to its Defense, is the Army really where that money would be best spent?

Their army is understaffed. They don't have any functional destroyers left. There are Reserve component is gutted and now they'll even allow soldiers to cross dress has transgenders, have colored hair and beards and have tattoos.

I wouldn't be surprised the US Army Goes the same way to try to cater to people because many don't want to join for whatever reason and I know in schools they indoctrinate you to not like your country.

A lot of people were upset and thought that President Trump was a Russian asset even though he wasn't one, now we know that President Biden is, yet president Trump was scolding NATO members for not putting percent toward defense though the former Warsaw Pact countries are pretty much the only ones that are because they know what it is to live under a Russian domination.

Thomas, I live in Canada and I read the local paper all the time. Here is an older article that is still relevant to today. I don't think the reserve component has improved any.

I have participated in two Canadian military exercises. Maple resolved is generally held at Canadian Forces base Wain right though sometimes they move it to the east and have it over there. It is a major exercise that validates a battalion minus or company plus unit that goes to Latvia as part of its security arrangement.

We've had guard at Army Reserve units serve in Maple resolve. One year Idaho National Guard went with their armor. I went as an O/CT supervisor back in 2018. I went as part of a brigade staff in 2019

Remember Secretary of State Donald Rumsfeld? He told us to go with what we got when I was in Kuwait. The Canadians go with what they got.
