If I were to make a list, it's be the M1 Garand, the M14, the FN Fal, the G3/Cetme, and the AR-10 as originally designed by Eugene Stoner, and adopted by the Portuguese.

For Assault Rifles, The G43, AK47/AKM/AK74/Galil, AR15/M16/M4, maybe the HK33. There's a reason the M16 and AK family rifles dominate the world scene.

For submachine guns, I'd say off the top of my head, the Thompson, the STEN, The Suomi, the Swedish K, and the PPSH 41. However there were a lot of important and iconic submachine gun developed.

And yes, all these lists are completely subjective, my favorites from history.

I trained with the M14,unfortunately had to use the M16 in Vietnam and from a lot of my earlier posts you would know I was not a great fan of this weapon for my two cents the M14 was a superior rifle don't know if it made the top ten list

The M14 is on here. I just got M1A last week. I loved it in he Stan when I got to play with it and told myself I'd own one. Can't wait to break it out AFTER I get trained on it.

Although I do like them all. Most of what I would pick is the popularity of the round used worldwide. The ole saying goes for the grunt. If you exhaust all your ammo where are you going to get it ? Just my two cents, Thanks SSG Warren Swan
