That’s one thing I don’t understand about America. We have anti discrimination laws but also at will employment.
It’s pretty hard to prove you were discriminated against especially when you haven’t been hired yet. Unless someone blows the whistle from the inside I doubt they’ll win in this case

While the comment, "... he wanted to become a police officer to help promote change from the inside," may seem noble, and it has some merit, it's still the wrong reason to become a police officer. To have as his primary reason the opportunity to "promote change," was self-defeating. First and foremost, a person's motivation must (SHOULD) be, "to help people," and not necessarily to help peoplle overcome whatever biases they may have. An honest officer ... a dedicated officer has to do more than impress change upon culture as a prime motivation - that would come from BEING a good cop in all other respects first. "Hey, he's a trans, but wow, he really cares about keeping us safe!"
It should also be noted that the department can NOT release their psycologist's report. The guy may well have answered, "guestions about his transition," totally satisfactory.
It's presumptuous to assume that is why he was removed as a candidate.
