SGT (Join to see) Thank you for this post. Very interesting story. The long-term battle between the "white man" and the "red man" has always been a mystery to me. I understand the history, I understand atrocities were committed by both. What I don't understand is the motivation between the groups or races. Is the bottom line simply racial? Was it a geo/political problem when the white man first came onto the shores of the "new world?" This has been something that I have wondered about since elementary school. While I am sure much has been written "about" these relations and the violence between the groups but not "why."
Are we, Americans, so arrogant that we (WASPs for the most part) have great disdain for people that are not "us" or are in anyway different? We disrespect, we harass, we inflict pain, ....... The overall philosophy of racism or racial superiority escapes me. I just don't get it.

I agree wholeheartedly with you, Mark. I don't get it either. Sometimes I think it is more cultural than anything.

I agree as well. Not an expert but think a lot of the 'atrocities' from our viewpoint stem from our lack of understanding of how inhabitants of the new world conducted warfare. Look at history of Myans, Incas, Aztecs etc.and it's not hard to understand how people's to the north would pattern their ways of warfare after the civilizations to the south.

PVT Mark Brown, something else should also be brought forth, the American Indians we're generally drove of the fertile soil, land found to have gold, and as the presence of the white man grew the reservations grew smaller. Many tried to fight, but with the Calvary the fight was unwinnable. IMHO
