Seems like he schooled the Republicans too.......as when Obama asked congress for a resolution authorizing use of force for Syria, the GOP was against it for the most part. The very same guys that are now all for it.......gosh, I wonder what changed for these patriots? As a matter of fact, Trump himself is on record saying that Obama shouldn't attack Syria without the consent of congress. My how things change when you are in the game instead of harping from the sidelines.

he schooled himself also, since he said we should stay out the last time this happened.

First, the GOP was not against it and note this quote by President Obama himself:

Obama also said that, "while I believe I have the authority to carry out this military action without specific congressional authorization, I know that the country will be stronger if we take this course, and our actions will be even more effective."

So if he had the authority, why the hell bother tipping your intentions and go through a debate wth Congress? Make a statement (not just "red line" words) and make an example of what happens when you use WMDs. THEN you can go to Congress for follow up action. The bill, by the way, had bipartisan support and non-support, ultimately not passing, especially with 70% of the US not in favor of military action at that time. Why? See below:

The realization that ISIS was taking advantage of our departure from Iraq didn't occur by then. Situations and opinions change based on bad decisions by the previous President. I too used to say we need to stay out of Syria. Once we pulled out of Iraq and left them to fend for themselves against ISIS, my opinion gradually changed. Especially when Obama only applied minimal assistance to defeat them. Had Obama listened to his military advisers and left enough troops in Iraq, along with hammering ISIS incursions, Syria would still be a civil war we could have stayed out of.

Instead Obama's approach against Syria after drawing a red line has now been exposed. He attempted to placate the American people through bogus claims that the Syrians got rid of their WMDs with Russian assurances and help. This did not happen obviously. This makes one wonder if the Republican pundits were right about the very bad deal he made with Iran (the answer to that is yes, they were right).

Have you not seen the clips of Congressman Chavitz of Utah going to great lengths to explain why he couldn't support a cruise missile strike on Syria by Obama? He really makes the case.....and he wasn't alone. It's all better now though......

Sorry I just don't see this as a political thing. This is a nothing more than a clear message from America, "If you use chemical weapons we are going to bomb the shit out of you!"

It is true that "Might does not make right", but it sure controls behavior more effectively than a "sharply worded note".
