Interesting quotes today, Mike. Confucius and Kierkegaard had two quotation that were very similar to each other that keep the past in its proper perspective. .
“Study the past if you would define the future.”
― Confucius
“Life can only be understood backwards; but it must be lived forwards.”
― Søren Kierkegaard

You always need to learn from the past, good, bad or ugly.

Good Morning COL. The past is history.Your own personal history is certainly what defines you, creates you as you are in the present. So the one that resonates with me of course is the most simple:
"We are products of our past, but we don't have to be prisoners of it." — Rick Warren
Take the right steps and you will have a wonderful fulfilling life....Take the wrong steps and it is a very long staircase. Have a fantastic Nor'Easter day ! I sure hope someone answered this first so as not to mess up my 1776 TB !

Good morning, COL Mikel J. Burroughs. I like your ball and chain analogy; to it I will add "The past is behind, learn from it. The future is ahead, prepare for it. The present is here, live it" (Thomas S. Monson). Cheers.

President Monson had been an icon of wisdom and humor through his time of service. We in the Church continue to miss him.

Do you recall the event at a General Conference session of a little boy, sitting near the front, who would mimic any activity President Monson had done? If the president moved a hand or smiled toward the congregation, the boy imitated his every move.

Finally, President Monson, sitting on the stand, glared at the boy and then wriggled his ears as only he could do. "I had him," the president reported.

Can't say I do, SFC Greg Bruorton. But I do agree it is an excellent way to deal with the young man in a positive way.
