UN News - On World Radio Day, UN officials urge use of radio as 'lifeline' in human progress

Today is World Radio Day, a day to recognize the continued importance of radio communications. There are areas of the world where internet and the devices to access the internet are either not available or are unaffordable for those that live there. For people in these areas the radio is a way of learning about the news and finding out information in times of emergencies that could save their lives. Radios in these areas air tsunami, how to avoid transmission of ebola and Zika as well as many other service announcements, radios portability, free to be accessed by large numbers (the root of the broadcast, radio, is a signal sent into the air and received for free.), and it's ability to provide limitless entertainment (music) can't be beat.
