Ya, in holding my breath. Give them a chance..... give them a chance...it is great to dehumanized the process and people. But as with the Clintons, they are people behind the dysfunction and firing everyone in a government bureaucracy is hardly a solution. The delays exist because there is little leadership in the GS ranks and political appointees don't seem to be able to untangle the web of nepotism and unionism which prevents competitive selection.

I forgot the VA employees are unionized. They have a lot of protection to,keep, from being fired.

"The beatings will continue until the morale improves"
You don't improve a system (bureaucracy) by threatening to fire employees. All that is going to do is trigger "Willful Compliance to the Letter of the Regulation" which is the root of the problem. "Not my job, not my problem" will become the norm for the Good Employees, and survival instinct will kick in for everyone else.

It's confusing to me. damned if you do, damned if you don't. Someone's head needs to roll. The VA system is long overdue for a total shake up. It's time to remove some of those who think they are invincible.

SGT (Join to see) - I don't disagree, but "threats of mass firings" are not the way to do it.
Think of the VHA like a Division with Intermittent Toxic Leadership. How would you fix the problem? Would you just fire the entire command staff? Or would you grab a new commander & CoS, and then quietly transfer out the "bad apples," promote performers, and replace as needed. Incentivize good behavior while making the bad stuff vanish quietly.
We don't have to fire people. We just offer them options where "early retirement" is better than living in AK for the next 12 years.

Sgt Aaron Kennedy, MS - I don't know Aaron. How would you know if the new leaders were better, or honest, and not in cahoots with the crooked leadership? Not even crooked, but will handle the jobs and take care of Vets needs within an acceptable time period. No, I don't think firing the whole department is a good idea. But I do think firing those responsible for the misconduct that's been going on will light a fire under the ones who want to continue working there. Does that make sense?

Each new leader comes in with unrealistic promises, Bob McDonald, the current head came in from outside from P&G three years ago. I can't say that we have seen significant change and many of the VA leadership remains in place.
I am all for someone trying something else that gets benefits to veterans.

Yes Sir, it seems like the VA is a hard nut to crack. Surely something can be done to improve the system.
