By the way, the KKK does exist in Canada. My wife is native Canadian and she gets racist looks and comments all the time. She's been called a squaw at the airport terminal while coming back from California. That reminds her that she's back in redneck Canada. You do have idiots driving around with the Alabama flag and they may be Rebels or Stoned Out Canadian idiots.

The KKK has a history in Canada. And it can return. - Macleans.ca
Canada is not immune to hate, and a look at the history of the Ku Klux Klan's expansion efforts proves it

LTC (Join to see) Well that Sucks. I Really Had No Exposure to Racism and the KKK Until I Joined the Navy. Fortunately/Unfortunately I went South to begin "My Adventure" Florida for Boot and A-School. Where I learned exactly what "The Other Side of the Railroad Track" Meant Plenty of Railroad Tracks in Florida and they Most Definitely Separate the White Side and Black Side of Town. Also when I Reported Aboard NTTC They Gave us "The Speech" about Racism and the KKK and I'll be Damned if it wasn't Warranted, Just Off-Base the Bowling Alley was the Hang Out for the KKK and They Recruited There. Bloody Galling. My Several Trips to Florida and My Connections to Florida was/is Very Enlightening and Probably Necessary for What I was Expected to Know and Do. Took a City Punk, Electronic Mischief Maker and Reinvented Me into Something All Together Different.

Help me out, LTC (Join to see). You wrote, "You do have idiots driving around with the Alabama flag". Do you mean the flag of the State of Alabama, or do you mean some form of the Confederate flag? What do you mean by Rebel?

LTC Stephen C. not to offend anybody from The Good Ole South, but usually in Canada, people have the Confederate flags on their vehicle or in curtains. Usually, it means Rebel or racist up here in Canada. I honor those who fought for the South for the Confederacy. Just that that flag has been hijacked by certain groups up here.

No worries, LTC (Join to see). I'm not offended. I just wanted to confirm that you were writing about the Confederate flag and not that of the State of Alabama.
As best I can tell (and as you have described), racial bias is not unique to the southern United States.

I still like the song. Our history is a complicated one but I love our country

Great song. George Wallace as I recall was a Democrat.
"In Birmingham, they love the governor (boo! boo! boo!) Now we all did what we could do"
