I will make and order SOS from time to time still.
I also like sausage gravy on my pancakes with 2 eggs sunny side...hot coffee (deer season)
Poke Sallet is what I remember hearing it called, my pops steered us clear of it but I definitely remember seeing people eating it. My old man was the king of fridge leftover concoctions and really most of it was actually pretty good but I'm spoiled and grateful actually. I miss the last few generations of ladies from both sides of my family, that once cooked so well it was incredible, sadly those skills are seemingly dwindling away. I learned to cook very well in fact, since someone has to do it if you want good food from the kitchen. You can certainly tell if there's TLC in the process by the end product in my opinion.
My grandfather said "America...my farm...we have food" and he was right too...

I am afraid that time has degenerated for all of us in some ways, but I certainly agree with You. I was born/raised on a farm/ranch, & proud of it. I have had conversations with my older Sister, that when we were kids, We eat like kings, everything was fresh out of the garden, killed our own pork, beef, You name it, but those days are gone! My job was Milking my COW at 0500 every morning when I was 7 yrs old, then my MOM would have me churn the fresh milk, She would then process to get butter off of the top of the churn, same with home made ice cream, then I would grind the pork into sausage for HER, The good thing about the way I grew up is I was kept busy, no time for trouble. I said SIR, & Ma'aM, because all of my family were military veterans! GOD BLESS AMERICA.
