US likely to send 1st aircraft carrier since war to Vietnam

Kind of a lame, innocuous statement.
I suppose we could say it's true on a technicality (i.e., we haven't openly sent an aircraft carrier over to specifically deal with anything Vietnam related).
But the fact remains that we deploy aircraft carriers around the world in specific regions all the time anyway...specifically so that they're pre-positioned as a forward deployed combat unit fully capable of responding on a moments notice to anything remotely near their theater of operations, whatever and whomever may be involved.

And yes...you're right. I didn't read the article and made an assumption...which, as we all know, usually turns out the way assumptions do. The article was nothing like what I assumed. I apologize.
