Watch the rimpac video in this story. It is not just about volleyball and making friends as shown in the movie Battleship. China was just invited this year so they are doing exercises near Taiwan. This just goes to show how friendly they are to their Democratic neighbor and rival Taiwan.

One reality is the communist mainland China is alienating itself from just about all of its neighboring countries with their aggressive sea power and also economic influence. All of those countries have legitimate concerns about China and it economic moves and forward basing islands to project their military power once they control enough other countries finances. I'd be very concerned on what the current moves will lead to in China's attempt to spread its influence on an international level. The preparation with there exercises may prove valuable when these nations may have to depend on each other to possibly ward off China. In any even international cooperation for mutual benefit seems like a good idea a concept China which appears as self serving may not fully grasp.

GySgt John Olson - Not so different actually I guess, it employs some of the thing We ourselves have done. I think of our own Island posturing in the Pacific. That has also sort of been in the back of My mind. The fact they are perhaps in the midst of a power shift in terms of influence is a valid. point. In any event time will sure tell us what their final destination is. You are correct in their not going unnoticed. I don't know any of us are certain where they are headed but I'm sure they have their own strategy well planned out and We are sure to find out when they reach their goals. if they succeed it won't be the first major power shift on this globe.

GySgt John Olson - History does tend to repeat itself. The cast may change but not the basic causes. The nations You mention are all good examples of that very thing.
